Mihama Utase Elementary School

千葉市立美浜打瀬小学校

This is the third primary school to be designed by C+A in this area, 500 m away from the Utase Elementary School that we designed and that opened in 1996. Many people chose to live in this area because they value the educational activity at Utase Elementary School, and that is why Mihama Utase Elementary School has adopted a similar architectural form. Knowing that the school was to be filled with pupils as soon as it opened, we decided to design by means of acoustic simulation, in order to create open spaces where classes could be held without sound
interferences. As a result, classrooms are located side by side. Assembly space for team teaching/briefing is designed as a
big staircase. Activities, light and air flow above this, across a
surface of flat slabs without expansion joints.

幕張新都心住宅地区の街びらきから10年がたち、年々増加する児童のために我々が設計した、この街で最初の小学校である「千葉市立打瀬小学校(1996)」からわずか500mほどの敷地に、24教室、児童数960人を想定して計画が進められた。

この町の学校の特色であり、住民や先生方からの要望でもある低層街区型で街に開かれ、接地性の高い学校、開校当初から定員いっぱいの子どもたちがこの校舎で遊ぶことになるため、音干渉でノイジーな空間にならないように音響シュミレーションを行い、平面計画や仕上げに反映させた。

建物全体は、平面的に広がるエキスパンションのない120m×80mの2枚の厚いスラブからなる平面的なスパインから成り立っている。この2枚にスラブの間に6学年の学年ゾーンと特別教室とが配置され、各学年ゾーンは4教室と、児童が隠れることができる丸ベンチや遮音壁を兼ねる島状のベンチを含むワークスペース、教員コーナー、水を使った授業がでいるアーツアンドサイエンスコーナー、学年の児童が集まれる階段状のアッセンブリースペースで学年ハウスを形成している。

スラブという強いスパインの上に環境的にも空間的にもノンヒエラルキーなフィールドが作られた。流動的でさまざまな領域が作られることを許容する空間の提案である。
