Ota House Museum

Ota House Museum

This is a museum and house for an individual artist and spouse, built on a site enclosed by fields at the north end of the Kanto Plain. Looking out on the surrounding moutains, there is a beautiful distant view that is very unusual in Japan. A three-story height was desirable in order to obtain this scenery, and because the museum is located on the first floor, a unique shape was created in which the second floor was omitted. The second floor, which became an intermediate level, supports the upper level by means of two cores, but one is a library in the shape of a stairwell, and the other is a "space of light" tatami room, a display space bathed in light and a guestroom. The changing scenery of the fields stretched out before one's eyes in the viewing floor is also beautiful.
